it’s been a rough month for us… we lost one of our dogs suddenly at the end of feb. Noel was my best friend and i had the closet bond to her of any of our animals.. she had been with me through the worst days of my life, was always there when i needed her.. a trusted loving friend that never let me down. She was with me even before my husband and i started dating. She was only a few months past her tenth birthday so she had lots of years left in her and we didn’t see it coming.. one day she was fine, the next she was at the vet and they were telling us that she had a tumor taking up 2 thirds of her abdomen .. it had shifted and was crushing her organs and stomach. Our other dogs have started to come around since the loss but i’m still grieving. I’ve put down a dog before.. my first.. that i had for 15.5 years (got her when i was only nine!).. but she lived a good long life, didn’t suffer at the end, and we had some control about when to put her down. it was a lot easier to get past than this time. This is the first time I’ve really lost someone close to me suddenly. My brain has been mush since. I knew the grieving process wouldn’t be easy but I had no idea how much it has seemed to slow down my cognitive functions. Although I suppose that could be related to detoxing off of a medication I’ve been on for years.

Anyways, i’m hanging in there… we have 3 other dogs who need their doggie mommy but it sure is an adjustment without noel. she was my right hand mame – many called her “mother hen” because with each dog we added to the “pack” she took on as her own “children”. she helped keep them in line, sooth them, and keep them happy (they are all rescues who needed a lot of reassurance). now they are following my husband around since he seems like the “strongest” one. sigh.

I just wanted to post something up about her as I often use the timeline on my blog to look back at major events and seasons of my life and that timeline wouldn’t be complete without adding a memorial to Noel.

Now go hug and cuddle you’re own furry friends! That’s exactly what I’m off to do.

I’ve been doing some personal developement reading and exercises lately and I’m really feeling good about it. I’ve gotten in touch with some interests that I lost sight of, I’ve created a list of things I’d like to experience or learn, and I’ve even worked in a few little things into my daily routine that have been really helpful.  I may do a blog post about all of the resources and books I’ve worked through recently (or at least the ones that have been the most helpful), but for now, I wanted to share one that I just did today. It looks a bit ghetto but I found it put me in the right mind frame before moving into making some decisions about the future. It’s called the Values Game and you can check it out here.

Here’s what you need:

• 2 bars of my cold press soap (grated)
• 1 cup of borax (available at most grocery stores)
• 1 cup of washing soda (not baking soda!)
• large pot
• extra large bucket (ideal size is 5 gallon bucket)
• water

What to  do:

1. Grate the bars of soap using a cheese grater
2. On the stove, put 8 cups of water in a large pot and bring to a boil
3. Add the grated soap to the pot, reduce heat to medium to medium high,  and stir frequently until dissolved.
4. While the soap is dissolving, step away from the stove to put 16 cups (1 gallon) of water into a large bucket.
5. Back to the stove – when the soap mixture is completely dissolved, pour the soap mixture into the water in the large bucket.
6. Add 1 cup borax and 1 cup washing soda.
7. Stir well.
8. If you still have room in your bucket (and you will if you used a 5 gallon bucket), fill the remainder of the bucket with warm water.
9. Stir again.
10. Let mixture sit overnight. It will turn from a liquid into a gel.

To Use:

• This recipe often separates so you will need to stir before using.
• Use ½ cup for a regular sized load and ¾ cup for a large or heavily soiled loads.
• This recipe does not make suds so it is ideal for HE washers. (Suds are not necessary for cleaning

RE: Shampoo Soap Bar

Hello Batty,
I have used your products for two weeks. I love all of them-facial bar, lotion, mask, scrub, etc. However, I have a problem with your all in one shampoo bar. 1. it doesn’t lather much. 2. After using it my hair feels very sticky. I cleaned my hair very well. 3. The hair gets dirty really easily. After I comb it, because it is so sticky, my comb gets lots of dirt attached between the teeth of the comb. Anyway, I really don’t know what is wrong. Please let me know what I can do to solve this problem. I had to stop using the shampoo bar for now.
